Corazón's health programming utilizes regular data collection and unique methods of education and information dissemination to improve health outcomes and increase health literacy and knowledge in Cicero, Berwyn, and neighboring communities.
These programs engage youth and parents as both learners and messengers, guiding them to be advocates for the health of their peers. We also pursue our mission through collaborations with other health and social service agencies,
such as Chicago House, Cook County Health, and Howard Brown Health, to deliver HIV/STI testing, counseling, and linkages to care.
Corazón started implementing Sexual Health Initiatives in school year 2009-2010, which was the first time in a decade that Morton East H.S. was under 100 pregnancies.
The testing staff provides clients with the most
up-to-date, medically accurate information,
emotional support and referrals for health care
and other social services.
Health Education & Risk Reduction:
Information dissemination, sexual health
education, and direct recruitment of participants
for HIV Counseling and Testing Services via the
Health Ambassador program.
Corazón's Health Ambassador Program
is a one-of-a-kind approach to training
youth and adult community members
as peer leaders and advocates for a
healthier community.
Ambassadors
work creatively to improve health
outcomes via community canvassing,
public service announcements, social
media campaigns news articles, town
hall meetings, testing opportunities,
survey research and more.
